Basenji
Basenji, small breed of dog belonging
to the hound group, also called the African barkless dog. The breed is clearly
shown in ancient
Egyptian
art. Although it is barkless, it is not completely mute. The basenji has upright
ears, a wrinkled forehead, short hair, and a tightly curled tail. The color
varies from black to reddish, often mixed with white. It weighs about 11 kg
(about 24 lb) and stands about 43 cm (about 17 in) high.
