an overtly hyped released that
mushroomed
into an uncontrollable media monster. i saw it opening night at the
Nuart in Santa Monica. a very smart promotional scheme was to hand out
slick pamphlets detailing the scenario ala videogames, to feed the
imagination
and to counter what was obviously lacking in content. the delivery was
the key factor in this film, and it worked. so much so that it might have
as big an impact as
_Pulp
Fiction_ (vhs/ntsc)(1994)
a half decade earlier. indeed, the bedroom filmmaker revolution is the
next step, after electronic music in the nineties and the zine scene of the
eighties. once again, what fascinates me most is not the
subjective
quality of a "thing" but more of its impact into the minds and therefore culture
and therefore system. this film most definitely makes a dent. oh, and
it wasn't scary for me, it just gave me a headache. - @Om*
