_Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome_
(vhs/ntsc)
directed by Kenneth Anger
1954-56 version: 41 minutes, sound
by Harry Partch.
1958 version presented at Brussels,
on three screens, also 41 minutes.
Sacred
Mushroom
Edition (1960-78), on one screen, 41 minutes, with a soundrrack by Lanacek (Clagolithic
Mass)
1978 version, on one screen, 38 minutes.
Soundtrack by the Electric Light Orchestra.
Thelema Abbey 1955. Sound documentary
on the ruins of
Aleister
Crowley's temple in Cefalu, Sicily.
An early version, which seems
never to have been distributed, had a sound track by Harry Partch. The
1954 version, which circulated widely, had Janacek's _Glagolithic Mass_
for a sound track. A three-screen version was presented at the experimental
film festival in Brussels in 1958 (but also never distributed). Then in
1966, Anger released the _Sacred Mushroom_ version, which was supposed
to be watched under the influence of
psychedelic
mushrooms or other drugs. It begins with a reading of Coleridge's _Kubla
Kahn_ and has a number of images added to the 1954 version, including photos
of Aleister Crowley; also horror movie sound effects were added to the
sound track. Later Anger deleted the Janacek sound track and put music
by the Electric Light Orchestra in its place. That is the version included
in the _Magick Lantern Cycle_, which includes all of Anger's films from
_Fireworks_ to _Lucifer Rising_.
