NAVY
Arco Power Technologies, Inc., Washington, D.C.,
is being awarded a $31,772,687 cost-plus-fixed-fee and firm-fixed-price
contract for the design, construction, and testing of the HF Active Auroral
Research Program Ionospheric Research Instrument (HAARP IRI). The
total proposed cumulative face value of this contract is $88,398,535.
Work on a demonstration prototype of the HAARP IRI will be performed in
the District of Columbia and in Menlo Park, California. The full
IRI will be constructed at a site in Alaska following environmental approval.
Work is expected to be completed by January 1997. Contract funds
in the amount of $30,146,566 would have expired at the end of the current
fiscal year. This contract was competitively procured with 20 proposals
solicited and 1 bid received. The Office of Naval Research is the
contracting activity (N00014-92-C-0210).
