Jupiter
Jupiter (j¡´pî-ter)
noun
1. Roman Mythology. The
supreme god, patron of the Roman state and brother and husband of Juno.
Also called Jove.
2. Astronomy. The fifth
planet from the
sun,
the largest and most massive in the solar system, having a sidereal period
of revolution about the sun of 11.86 years at a mean distance of 777 million
kilometers (483 million miles), a mean diameter of approximately 138,000
kilometers (86,000 miles), and a mass approximately 318 times that of Earth.
[Latin Iúpiter.]
Jupiter
Jupiter, in Roman mythology, supreme god; also called Jove; son of SATURN and Ops; brother and husband of JUNO. Originally an agricultural god, he developed into the prime protector of the state and was identified with the Greek ZEUS.
Jupiter
Jupiter (j¡´pî-ter),
in astronomy, 5th PLANET from the sun, at a mean distance of 483.6 million mi
(778.3 million km), and largest planet in the solar system, with an equatorial
diameter of 88,700 mi (142,800 km). It is a largely liquid planet with an atmosphere
composed mostly of hydrogen and
helium,
with traces of methane, ammonia, and other gases, and about five or six zones
each of counterflowing eastward- and westward-flowing winds. The most prominent
atmospheric features (all in the southern hemisphere) are the Great Red Spot,
a storm at least 300 years old and measuring c.30,000 by 10,000 mi (48,000 by
16,000 km), and three large white ovals that formed in 1939. The vast bulk of
the planet is liquid hydrogen some 40,000 mi (64,000 km) deep, under which lies
a rocky core approximately the size of the earth. Jupiter has 16 known natural
satellites, 12 of which are of small diameter. The four larger Galilean satellites
were discovered by
GALILEO
in 1610. Callisto (diameter: 2,995 mi/4,820 km), the most distant and the least
active geologically of the four, has a heavily cratered surface. Ganymede (diameter:
3,279 mi/5,276 km), second most distant of the four and the largest satellite
in the solar system, has heavily cratered regions, tens of miles across, that
are surrounded by younger,
grooved
terrain. Europa (diameter: 1,942 mi/3,126 km) is a white, highly reflecting
body whose smooth surface is entirely covered with dark streaks up to 70 km
in width and from several hundred to several thousand kilometers in length.
Io (diameter: 2,257 mi/3,632 km), the closest to Jupiter of the four, is the
most active geologically, with
eight
active volcanoes that are probably energized by the tidal effects of Jupiter's
enormous mass.

Synchronicity:
the Schumaker-Levy Comet arrived in 1994. Three fragments crashed into Jupiter,
making a spectacular display. The first fragment struck 25 years to the day,
after the launch of the first
Moon
Landing Mission by
.
The second fragment hit on July 21 - 25 years to the minute, after the actual
Apollo 11 Moon landing. The third fragment hit 25 years, after the Apollo astronauts
had successfully lifted of from the lunar surface.
"I'd never try to rouse something
as destructive as man. I wanna calm people down, put 'em in a sort of
dream
state, between myth and
reality.
They just gotta learn to use their intuition. Intuition is a survival
mechanism, innate knowledge of the proper thing to do. Now you got people
acting like savages, you just read the papers or watch the news. I've
seen so much ugliness and stupidity on this planet..... People here keep making
the same mistakes, history repeats itself. It's very boring for me; I've
been elsewhere, you see. I'd much rather be on Jupiter, there it's inexpressibly
beautiful, splendorous, pure happiness. I can see why they say the word
'jovial' come from Jupiter. I was there just the other day, in what you
might call a dream or a vision, but it was just as real as you and I talking
right here. You got to learn to understand rather than overstand your
position regarding so-called reality."
