Matta Echaurren, Roberto Sebastián
Antonio (1911- ) (11/11/11), Chilean-born painter, whose works, inspired by
Surrealism,
illustrate a
dream
world of modern technological civilization. His paintings depict strange hybrid
automatons and insectlike creatures. Matta, now a French citizen, lived in New
York City from 1939 to 1948 and influenced the work of Arshile Gorky and the
creation of abstract expressionism.
